D3 Simple games are true to the name in having a simple premise: fun. Often feeling like playing a game using improper gameplay ie doing not what your meant to be doing, such a driving a tank down downtown New York with turrets blazing.

An array of swimmers from the innocent to the evil looking to take to the pool to try and blow away the opposition with a good, rhythmical stroke.

Run and gun has never been quite this much fun as D3 shows its youth wasn’t all mis-spent knocking out B-movie style budget games. Alien invaders swarm and the screen is over-run with them at times, but the hardware handles it superbly.

Lots of elevator style music, plenty of shots of blue skies and super sweet voice acting as D3 shows its form in the dating sim arena. Subtitled Sayonara no Mukoukawa.

Played as a young yakuza wanabee getting to rough up citizens on your territory for cash to spend on items such as the defensive leather jacket or the pretty mean sword. Whilst not the longest title, its a very fun, budget ride through the underworld while it lasts.

Fast and throw away fun which is easy to pick up and play and not too much character depth are the hallmarks of the Simple series. Here players are stuck in a maze and must find keys and weapons ahead of their opponent to escape first.

Captures the dynamism of the sport with lightening claps of special moves. Yet at the same time realises that the 2D perspective is the way forward for the sport. Plays a very GG.

Cruise the highways on a CHIPS style police bike protecting VIP’s in their cars from terrorists. The players guns are auto fire and its possible to take a hail of bullets on behalf of the presidents as its only their health that depletes. More fun than a can of spray cheese.

Fine tribute to the Namco tongue in cheek light gun games with players going up against a fair array of enemies including ghosts in the graveyard and plenty of whacky, Nippon inspired adversaries. Great fun and a real arcadey fresh feel to proceedings.

The Bishojo of the title translates as beautiful girl and the lead characters are all female in this solid action RPG. The player has plenty of story freedom to explore in the popular D3 series.

Not your average dodgeball or kingy title as players travel not only the world, but also through time to sample the dodgeballing skills of Socrates, Bach and Nobunaga. Plenty of over the top specials to dazzle opponents with and frustrate them by not revealing how they are unleashed. Subtitled World Champion Dodge Baller.

One on One Beat Em Up
Plenty of lycra on show in this Japanese monster and hero themed martial mash up with a bloke in rubber suit B movie feel. The bosses take some beating, but the reward of fresh costumes, mega moves and more weapons is sufficient motivation for the latex loving monster fan.

The Dream Club is a hostess bar where you can buy the girls drinks, chat, watch them get a bit woozy after too many drinks, enjoy a song and perhaps even treat them to a present or two on a date outside the club? Attentive gamers will flourish as the girls reveal secrets after too many cocktails and that knowledge will help answer tricky queries and win over their heart.

The budget version of Dynamite Soccer 98 plays a quick fire, arcade style game with the ball pinging around in the midfield area. The sprightly mechanics make for a fine football engine with excitement generated from the quick fire action.

Side Scrolling Beat Em Up
Draws on the Yankee gang styling that runs a deep undercurrent in Japanese society: street punks with distinctive kanji adorned clothing and often close held affinity to rev head bikes. And what a fine source material for any game to draw on. Those Chinese character kanji appear over the fights to add manga style sound effects. The first mistake would be to under-estimate a female opponent: the girls give as good as they’ve got. But before that players must break out of jail and beat the boss: a tough crim which takes a bit of button bashing when the challenge pops up. Has a feel inspired by Tecmos Kunio as iron bars and other suitably vicious weapons can be utilised for a brief stint. As can an adrenalin fuelled assault – possibly the result of too many of those caffeine filled bottles?

Martial arts mayhem unleashed with this cross style face-off involving boxers, kick boxers, karate experts, wrestlers, judo masters and a host of other fighting disciplines amongst the ten selectable characters. Special moves can be unleashed when the spirit meter is sufficiently charged. Bouts can be won with a submission besides a knock out depending on your sportsmanfs skills and ability to thrash the PS2 buttons with sufficient vigour – a sight to behold in multiplayer match ups. And in a nod to the dangers of the sport limbs can be broken by repeatedly targeting the same area. Definitely influenced by the famous gatherings such as K1 and Pride but thatfs no bad thing. gSeconds awaych Known as eThe Ishu Kakutougif in Japanese.

One on One Beat Em Up
Translating as ‘Bloke’s Training School’ there are plenty of tough fights ahead complete with vicious weaponry and even sharper tongues as insults are traded. Takes its inspiration from the Fist of the North Star series in terms of graphical appearance of the cel shaded protagonists capable of launching immense martial manoeuvres. Little known title but worthy of much more with such intensive styling and bold graphics.

Enjoy a relaxing game of ping pong at the local school, out of town hot spring or even outer space in this tidy table tennis title with ten characters in the cute ‘Minna no Golf’ graphical style. Fine rallies are possible especially in a well matched two play stand off. Hot springs and table tennis are a winning combination.

Full of the rough and tumble atmosphere of the Shinto sport as the referee bellows away with wood print style cel shaded graphics. As in the real sport getting a good start is imperative as you gamble on one of the buttons to begin and launch off your haunches. Matches are decide by a knock down or ring out with timing of the button bashing assault being all important.
