Dreamcast
Sports
Comes with a pack in Bible that explains the rules making for a large pack. The game is a fine product of Sega Sports with plenty of cheer and razzmatazz along with the fluid mechanics and slick presentation you would expect. Good for gamers with no prior knowledge required.
Sega Saturn
Puzzle
Light hearted puzzle and quiz title which excels in multiplayer especially with a multitap. Varied action keeps things fresh and ticking along very nicely.
Nintendo DS
Rhythm
Bottom Biting Insect might be a good translation of the title, but we are not too sure what the spam detectors will make of it. The NHK phenomena was so big that the song guested on the New Years celebration programme in Japan. Not a good tune to get stuck in your head, but theres great musical variance here as players tap away in very colourful environs to witness the successful bottom bite at the end providing the stages are cleared. Very enjoyable and great for a quick tap rather than an epic adventure.
Sega Saturn
A Bit Special
A collectors item for fans of VF: watch Jeff in different situations – including diving and whaling! Owners of five or more of the series were rewarded with a special Dual disk.
PS2
One on One Beat Em Up
AM2’s opus given a PS2 make over. Huge expectations on this title, yet it did not disappoint. Dazzling lighting and shadow effects. The Drunken Master look a like is a firm Genki fave.
PS2
Shooter
PS2 update of the Sega smash from the arcades that demanded dedication to master the full destructive prowess of the mecha pugilists. Not that bouts within the confines of the ring are always toe to toe – its often best to pick off an opponent from afar with a few tactical strafes before moving in for the kill. A superb range of robots to select from and some well thought out controls in the absence of the Twin Sticks controller. Opening the Virtual On world up for all to enjoy will hopefully please even the most fiercely loyal of fans.
Sega Saturn
Sports
Simulates the ins and outs of life at a baseball club. Will your team be the Giants or the Nippon Ham Fighters of the Japanese Professional Baseballing circuit?
Sega Saturn
Sports
Experience the highs and lows of football management in this officially licensed Japanese Football League game. Also known as J League Pro Soccer Club O Tsukurou! 2.
Sega Saturn
Sports
Based on the two Japanese leagues (Pacific and Central), this update of the popular Greatest Nine series utilises polygon players to add to the swish looking stadia. Worth a look for the baseball fan and a bargain, brand new addition to the Saturn collector.
Mega Drive
Sports
Basketball legend who was named rookie of the year and won gold in Barcelona with a basketball game to live up to his mighty name. Passing is smooth and its soon possible to flow down the court mimicking the speed of the real game. Another string to the sweet sounding Sega sports bow.
GameBoy Advance
Puzzle
Good mix of modes including the Survival mode where you must try to win back the gems that have been stolen from the royal crown, hence the title. Two player link up battles are also possible using just a single cartridge. As simple and addictive as ever – the ultimate journey companion.
Dreamcast
Sports
Simulates the ups and downs of life at a baseball club. You’ll need the eyes of a Fukuoka Hawk, the ferocity of the Chunichi Dragon, the backbone of a Hanshin Tiger and to be as coy as a Hiroshima Carp to succeed.
PS2
Rhythm
Ulala once again bust’s a groove whilst looking fab in her futuristic attire in this sleek Sega production. A great addition over the prequel is the two player co-operative mode which sees control of Ulala split with one player taking the direction pad, the other the buttons and frequent off screen scraps as to who was at fault for the missed hip gyration. Look out for a guest appearance from Michael Jackson on one of the stages, but his moves suffer in comparison to our Ulala. Much more affordable than the DC release.

Simulates the ups and downs of life at a baseball club. You’ll need the eyes of a Fukuoka Hawk, the ferocity of the Chunichi Dragon, the backbone of a Hanshin Tiger and to be as coy as a Hiroshima Carp to succeed. Comes with online capabilities, unfortunately the servers are no longer there though.
Dreamcast
Sports
Masses of Japanese, American and European cars to choose from each with unique handling as Sega steers away from its arcade rally races and gets realistic in this Gran Turismo style racing game. Good graphical attention to detail seen for example in the whirl of red light left behind when a car jams on the anchors at night.
Mega CD
Simulation
Dreaded FMV title that is actually quite a laugh if you can savour the flavour of the hammy, cheesy acting. Gameplay involves setting trap to capture crooks within the apartment building. So often its important to be in the right place at the right time. A classic early example of a console CD game.
Nintendo DS
Action
An off-beat beetle battling title from Sega in which players look after a fairly sizeable insect such as a helmet beetle. Other beetles can then be challenge to bouts with entertaining techniques and secret specials used to take down the rival bug. Although insect collecting is more acceptable in Japan, this sort of game could see the phenomena spread. Known in Japan by its full title of Kouchuu Ouja Mushi King Greatest Champion e no Michi DS.
Wii
Action
Sonic back to his mach speed best in this Arabian themed expedition with tight, confined tunnels, glistening waterways and vast expanses of desert to explore. Gameplay positively zips along as the irrespressible Sonic grabs the rings and hits the turbo boosts for an adrenalin soaked experience. The setting is exploited well as Sonic sprints up sheer cliffs and edges along sheer drops all with deft control from the Wii remote.
PS3
One on One Beat Em Up
Well worth the wait as Sega polishes its massive series to create a visual punch capable of knocking players out cold for the count. Pugilists flow like water with seamless animation making it at times difficult to concentrate on countering the attacks, such is the graphical splendour. And its not only the players full of fluidity Ethe waterfall level will take a few attempts to get used to before players can focus fully on the battle in-hand. Seventeen playable fighters with some vicious special moves to master to become king of the arcades as players tour round the game centres fighting new challengers. Master is the operative word with ranking determined by performance against tougher opponents with the ultimate aim being to reach tenth dan. So the dojo is a sound place to start for some solid training in the foundations. Tournament mode allows competitors to pick up money or a new outfit to radically alter the player’s on-screen persona’s appearance.

Whittle away a few peaceful hours on Lake Paradise trying to land a big bass renowned for their fighting ability. Tactical choice of lure is essential as you cajoule the bass to take the bait. Once you have a bite the line tension guage must be carefully monitored to stop the line from snapping. Arcade and DC original modes to select with the latter being far more forgiving than the arcade mode in which you must land sufficient weight within the time limit to you move on to the next stage. Failure to bag anything will leave you gutted.
Sega Saturn
Simulation
Town management simulation set during the Edo period with period setting characters sporting the tradition haircuts and a well realised isometric town in which to chat to the townsfolk and chase geisha.
Dreamcast
Sports
Or Lets Make a Race Horse as the popular Sega Sports series changes from baseball and football to breeding and training a derby winner. Strangely compelling as you build up the race tracks to the most prestigious of courses.
Sega Saturn
Puzzle
Light hearted puzzle and quiz title which excels in multiplayer especially with a multitap. Varied action keeps things fresh and ticking along very nicely in Tanto R, whilst the Shukudai (or ‘homework’) game may prove a bit of a chore without linguistic skills.
Miscellaneous Games
Simulation
Mahjong on the Mark III with some superb characters to enliven the action.
PS2
Sports
Soccer management sim testing all areas of your knowledge of the game. Luckily Wayne Rooney style Anglo-Saxon language isn’t a part of the game in Japan making your job that little bit easier. No wonder golden boy Gary Lineker was so popular. Known in Japan as ‘Sakatsuku 2002’.

Sega Sport’s success sprang from titles such as Victory Goal. Realistic low scoring games are common place between two players. Up to four players with multitap (not included.) Full complement of J League teams.
Sega Saturn

Newspaper back pages are often dedicated to the man Nomo (despite him plying his trade in America), so it’s only natural that we have a Saturn game for him. A realistic Sega Sports title, packed full of Major League players and stats.
